Drivers Profile

Evan Hutchison is one of the iron men of off road racing.  Small of stature but big of heart, he has spent a lifetime racing in the dirt on two wheels and four.  The seed was planted when he was exposed to trials riding as a small boy.  He has raced BMX, moto cross, jet skis and quads.  He’s a multiple Super Series quad champion, three times Nigel flat track champion and won the time trial and led his quad class on his first Roof of Africa Rally.

He graduated to building off road cars and worked with the famous Nic Jooste on the original BAT specials. Spells as a team manager honed his considerable organizational skills and he arrived with a bang in 2005 when he combined team manager and driving duties for Motorite Racing, winning the national class B championship at his and Motorite’s first attempt in a BAT.

He followed this up with a memorable 1-2-3 in the special vehicle championship the following year, with Alfie Cox taking the title ahead of team-mates Hutchison and Brandon Harcus in a BAT Spec 2.  It was Hutchison’s turn in 2007, when he won Motorite Racing’s third successive title in the awesome BAT Spec 3, designed and built by co-driver Achim Bergmann.

He and Bergmann repeated the feat in 2009 in the unique four-wheel-drive Revo, also designed and built by Bergmann, dominating the series first timeout.

At the end of the eight-event 2009 season Hutchison and co-driver Elvene Coetzee, daughter of the legendary rally and off road driver Kassie, emerged as class A7 champions, having won their class three times and finished in the top three in all eight events in their first season together. In the process Hutchison became the first driver since the legendary Hannes Grobler in 1986 to win national off road and rally titles in the same season.

Hutchison and Stassen win the  Absa Off Road Championship.
