Drivers Profile

Alfie Cox is not just a multiple national off road motorcycle and car champion, he is one of South Africa’s best-known motor sportsmen, both locally and internationally, thanks to his record successes here and in international events like the famous Dakar Rally.

Alfie Cox was already a legend on two wheels with 23 off road and enduro national championships to his name between 1985 and 2001 when he won the production vehicle category of the 2005 car off road championship in a factory Nissan Hardbody.  He made his off road car debut the previous year in a class D Nissan Hardbody, winning the class championship at his first attempt.

He made history the following year when he won the special vehicle category in a Motorite Racing Bat Spec 2, with team-mates Evan Hutchison and Brandon Harcus finishing second and third respectively.  It was his 26th national title and he became the only person to win the national off road championship on two wheels and both categories of four wheels.

During his bike racing career Cox competed with distinction in the world’s most extreme off road events like Red Bull Romaniacs, Erzberg Rodeo and the Roof of Africa in Lesotho.  He won the Roof a record nine times.

He is also a legend of the Dakar Rally, the world’s longest and toughest off road race, in which he has competed 12 times between 1998 and 2012, seven times on a KTM bike and five times in cars.  He finished second among the bikes in the 2002 Dakar and was third on two other occasions.
