An electrical problem ended Motorite BAT Viper duo Evan Hutchison and Danie Stassen’s Nkomazi 450 charge to take the pair’s Bat Viper out of a comfortable lead of the weekend’s Nkomazi 450 Donaldson SA Cross Country race in Mpumalanga,

However despite their disappointment, the Motorite team still leads the championship following principal rivals Lance Trethewey and Geoff Minnitt also running into problems, which limited their ability to benefit from Hutchinson and Stassen’s woes.

“You can’t win them all,” a disappointed Hutchinson rued. “We had a great qualifying and were comfortably in the lead when the trouble hit. “Luckily for us, Lance and Geoff never had the best of days either and we still lead the championship, so we have to be double ready for the next race.”

Hutchinson and Stassen had dominated Friday’s prologue qualifier and led all the way until that electric gremlin brought the Motorite BAT to a standstill. “They say that to finish first, you must first finish,” Stassen concluded. “So we will be going all out to do both of those next time.”

The fifth and penultimate round of the 2015 Donaldson SA Cross Country Championship is the Vryburg Endurance Race in the Northwest on 11-12 September.
